Duncan Mackenzie

Duncan Mackenzie is the man kneeling at the edge of the trench to the right. The figure at the left with the pith helmet is probably Arthur Evans. The woman in the centre remains unknown; she cannot be Evans' wife, as the latter had died well before the excavation of Knossos. Duncan Mackenzie (17 May 1861 – 1934) was a Scottish archaeologist, whose work focused on one of the more spectacular 20th century archaeological finds, Crete's palace of Knossos, the proven centre of Minoan civilisation.
